Getting Employer Support to Attend CANO/ACIO Conference

The CANO/ACIO Conference is an opportunity for oncology nurses to connect with their peers and improve their professional knowledge in the areas of oncology nursing, patient engagement and interdisciplinary practice. Attending the conference will allow participants to:

  • Gain knowledge about current issues, trends, treatments, educational strategies and models of care redesign underway in oncology care settings across Canada
  • Receive evidence informed, current updates on trends in cancer treatments, and symptom management
  • Share and build on one another’s skills, expertise and experience from practice in diverse oncology settings around Canada

We have drafted a brief sample letter of support to help you gain support from your employer to attend the CANO/ACIO Conference. Feel free to customize it to suit your needs.

Tips on Getting Employer Support

  • Share the first announcement, preliminary program, final program and conference website with your colleagues
  • Discuss the knowledge you will gain from attending and how it will benefit your work
  • Offer to prepare and deliver a short presentation and Q&A session for your colleagues to share what you learn, so others in your work setting can benefit from your attendance. Following the conference, delegates will receive the CANO/ACIO Highlights, which provides a summary of the conference
  • Be ready with a plan that shows who will cover for you while you are attending CANO/ACIO 2020
  • Make a list of exhibitors you plan to visit whose products and services would be an asset to your work and organization. Share any informational material or samples from exhibitors you receive with your colleagues
  • Register for CANO/ACIO 2020 and book your transportation and accommodations early for the best rates
