The official name shall be the
Champlain Chapter of the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO)
Mission StatementFostering
nursing excellence in oncology for patients and families affected by cancer in
the Ottawa
region
Purpose
- To provide opportunities for oncology
nurses to connect and build a community of practice
- To provide opportunities for oncology nurses
to increase knowledge by sharing their expertise
- To provide a forum in which oncology
nurses can express opinions and recommendations to the National
organization in order to influence oncology nursing
- To increase communication between the
National organization and local members
Objectives
- To promote education and specialization in
the field of oncology and palliative care through the Canadian Nurses
Association
- To disseminate and implement the CANO
standards of care
- To promote research and best evidence
practice guidelines locally
- To provide an opportunity to share
research findings
- To promote membership in CANO among all
nurses working with cancer patients in all domains of practice
- To develop and promote educational
fellowships and grants available through CANO
- To promote educational grants available
through the local chapter
Meetings
- The annual general meeting will be held in
the fall of each year
- Educational meetings will be held four
times a year
- Written notification via mail and/or email
will be posted 2 weeks prior to each meeting
- A business meeting will be held before
each educational session & at call of co-chairs
Officers
Co-chair:2-3 year term of office
- Acts as the Liaison with the National
Board of Directors
- Acts as the representative on the Council
of Chapters
- Presides over all meetings of the
executive and the AGM
- Appoints an alternate to chair meetings if
required
- Acts as the past co-chair for 1 year after
term
Co-chair:2-3 year term of office
- Responsible for quarterly business
meetings
- Provides support to newly appointed chairs
of subcommittees
- Signs all thank you notes and
other correspondence
- Acts as the co-chair of the executive
& serves as past co-chair for one year after term.
Secretary: 2-3 year
term of office
- Maintain minutes for all meetings
- Maintain the membership list
- Keep attendance at all meetings
- Will communicate information about
upcoming meetings
Treasurer:2-3 year term of office
- Responsible for safe keeping of monies
- Monies will be deposited in a chartered
bank, credit union or trust company
- All cheques are to be cosigned by the
treasurer and the past president
- Keep financial records of all transactions
- Prepare a financial statement to be
presented at the AGM
- Purchase thank you gifts and cards
- Arrange catering when required
Sub committees;
Chair:2-3 year term of office
Awards and Grants:
- Organizes & reviews all applications
for educational/travel awards provided by the local chapter
- In collaboration with the executive
committee manages & develops criteria for selection of awards and
identifies possible nominees for CANO annual awards of excellence
2. Recruitment and Retention
- Review/update
membership list yearly
- Remind
past members to reapply each year
- In
collaboration with the executive develop strategies for recruitment of new
members
3. Education
- Organizes the four education sessions held
annually
- In collaboration with the executive,
applies for annual Chapter grants
- In collaboration with other members and
executive organizes the annual oncology nursing day celebration
4. Local Planning Committee(LPC); national CANO conference &
meeting, Ottawa2012.
